“I never knew my great-grandmother, Ethel Stewart
Russell, but I hear she was a firecracker. Smart, witty,
dry, and a little severe even.
One year for Christmas, about three weeks before
I was married, my mom passed down to me Ethel’s
cameo ring. It was the perfect gift because I’m endlessly sentimental about family; I have proudly worn it
on my right hand ever since. Every time I look at it, I
think of the women in my life who, through example,
have taught me the importance of being principled
and tough, but also kind and loving.”
