Yoko Vega’s fruit- less shopping trips prompted her to take matters into her own hands—literally. “I learned to sew when I was about 13,” re- calls the native of Nagano, Japan. “I really wanted some cute, more grown-up clothes for school, but I couldn’t find any that fit because I was petite. So my grandmother started to teach me how to sew my own clothes.” For the past three years, Yoko has been putting her sewing know-how to a different use: most of the necklaces that she makes
